State Of The Hogs #36

Razorback Football

1-0, yet uninspiring.

It wasn’t pretty by any means, but ask Tennessee, Missouri, and Ole Miss how they’re feeling today.

I used the word “uninspiring” as my instant reaction word to describe the game.

I was pumped for the game. The crowd was very solid. 60,000+ for a afternoon game against a FCS school coming off a two win season was a positive.

Defense played great. Three interceptions and six sacks.

Offensively it was a struggle. Yes, virtually every position has changed from last year. The dropped passes were bad. The clock management by Starkel at the end of the half was inexcusable. He is a fourth year junior. Not a true freshman. Rakeem did his thing. Offensive line looked much better.

Hicks and Starkel completed 18/35 passes for 191 yards, no touchdowns, and a ugly interception off the hands of Starkel.

It just feels like we had high expectations for this game. Go back and look at the predictions we made, a lot of them were 30-40 point blowouts. We ALL had high expectations for this game and expected a solid win. That was not what we got, leading to my word for the game being “uninspiring”. Sure, a lot of freshman got thrown into the fire. Two new QB’s leading the way. Fine. I get it. I’m the last person to want to be negative about the team but I do feel like the hype from the offseason didn’t match the outcome of game 1.

Plus, this is one game. Eleven more to go. This game reminded me of Bielema’s fourth year when they barely beat Louisiana Tech in the home opener. Six days later, that team beat TCU in Fort Worth.

On the bright side, the uniforms and natural grass looked really great.

The Hogs are gonna play better in Oxford next week. Early odds have the Rebels favored by six.

I will preview the Rebels on Friday.

Woo Pig.
