With redshirt-freshman center Ibrahim “Ibby” Ali entering the transfer portal, the Arkansas basketball program now has two scholarship openings for the 2019 class. New Razorback head coach Eric Musselman has an extensive list of interests mainly consisting of both standard and graduate transfers.
Though there are a variety of options, Musselman has seemingly prioritized three players for these remaining two spots.
Khadim Sy is an immediately eligible junior college prospect from Daytona State. He initially enrolled at Virginia Tech out of high school. His sophomore year at Daytona State, Sy averaged 16.8 points a game and 9.8 rebounds a game. His 6’10” frame, built at 245 pounds, would provide much needed size for the basketball hogs. Rumors swirled that he would visit The Hill between Ole Miss and LSU, but he recently did not fulfill his visit to LSU on May 5th. We are currently working to see if and when he will visit Fayetteville.
Kyree Walker is a five star prospect in the class of 2020, but has the opportunity to reclassify. He has not discussed reclassifying much in depth, but it seems as if Coach Musselman is trying to convince him to do so. Walker listed Arkansas as his top school recently, so the explosive wing in more than still in play for the Hogs.
Connor Vanover is visiting May 9th-10th. The former Baptist Prep standout entered the transfer portal after finishing his freshman season at the University of California. The 7’3″ shooter took a while to condition and adjust to the college game, but posted solid stats once he did. Vanover scored in double figures in seven of his final eleven games on the season, with a high of 24 points. He shot 37% from the three point line and 47% from the field. He would have to sit a year, but would have three years of eligibility.
If only one or none of these three end up a Hog, there are plenty of other quality options still available on the board. In recent weeks, there have also been rumblings of a potential return of a highly-touted player.c
Khalil Garland has been teasing a return the past few weeks on social media, as well as a posted and deleted tweet by Mason Jones saying that Garland had been cleared. It is yet to be determined if Garland will officially be cleared, but the possibility is still there.
As of right now, the roster makeup is:
With the possibility of Khadim Sy and Kyree Walker committing, there could be anywhere from two-to-five available scholarships for the loaded 2020 class. Regardless of who does and does not commit, there are more high-profile recruits on the Hogs’ radar than there have been in some time.
