Defensive freshmen to look for in 2019

Incoming freshman will play a critical role in the upcoming 2019-2020 season. The 2019 recruiting class was one of the best in program history and defense was just as much a priority as offense. Here are some of the freshmen that will contribute on the defensive side of the ball.

DT- Eric Gregory. Gregory has great size at 6’4 270. He has already shown strides at defensive tackle by recording two sacks at the spring game. Gregory, originally from Memphis, played high school football in Florida at IMG academy along with fellow freshman WR Shamar Nash.

Another D-Lineman that can play at the end spot or interior is Collin Clay. Clay at 6’4 260 was a 4 star recruit out of Oklahoma and looks to have tons of potential.

DE- Mataio Soli. Soli, a 4 star recruit out of Georgia, has already made an impact at Arkansas’ spring game where he recorded a tackle for loss and a sack. At 6’4 225, Soli has the frame, athleticism, and work ethic to become a top SEC pass rusher. His dad also played for the Razorbacks from 1992-95.

LB- Zach Zimos. Zach was the only linebacker in the 2019 class and a 4 star coming out of high school. At 6’3.5 205, he has the frame and length to become a quality defender in the SEC. He’ll most likely play outside linebacker due to his size and defend the pass. Zimos will be most welcomed to a shallow Arkansas linebacker squad.

CB- Devin Bush. Bush, a 4 star out of New Orleans will get tons of playing time this year. After Arkansas’ top corner back Ryan Pulley declared for the NFL draft, Bush will provide quality depth at the position. At the Arkansas spring game, Bush had a pic six, showing he has a nose for the ball.

Saftey- Jalen Catalon. Jalen isn’t on campus yet but will provide solid depth when he arrives. A 4 star out of high school, Catalon chose the Razorbacks over Texas, OU, and TCU. Along with other defensive players Tauren Carter and Enoch Jackson, Catalon was the third player out of Mansfield Texas to commit to the Hogs.

Arkansas 2019 recruiting class was one for the books and I think the defense will be a force to reckon with. Defense wins championships and Morris and co knows that. Look to see our defense in the better half of the SEC this season.
