Arkansas’ 2020 Vision

The coaching staff has been sending these out to the 2020 prospects about the vision they have for the future of the program. So, here we are a day after the early National Signing Day began, we are going to take an in-depth look at what Arkansas needs to do to continue hurt hot recruiting. In order to build off a program changing recruiting class (that isn’t quite finished yet), Arkansas will have to improve on the field from the 2018 debacle. To many fans, there was no talent on the roster for the Hogs last season but I feel there was talent but not enough to make a difference or even produce in the scheme head coach, Chad Morris, wanted to implement. The defense played well at times under John Chavis but not well enough to overcome the marginal offense. Guys like Randy Ramsey, Armon Watts, Scoota Harris and Dre Greenlaw were difference makers but in the SEC, you need those guys two to three deep at every position. Having Prince Dorbah or Kevon Billingsley who are both high four star prospects that Arkansas could sign, would bolster the depth behind Zach Williams, Mataio Soli and Zach Zimos.
The 2019 class adds depth and potential star power but one elite class will not change much on the field. The coaching staff is doing a good job getting the Arkansas brand and logo recognizable all over the country and pushing to make Arkansas a nationally respected product again. This is the same blueprint Morris used as he helped to rebrand Clemson. Arkansas’ staff is in schools no Razorback logo has ever been. Flipping every rock in every in-state school to find a diamond in the rough.
Arkansas fans will soon find out if they can continue to recruit at a high level when the 2019 regular season begins. We saw this historical class stay together even with the dismal record BUT they need to show improvement in year two to keep up the hot recruiting. If they can do that, here are the 2020 prospects I expect Arkansas to recruit hard and potentially sign next December and February.
3 ⭐️ Jacolby Criswell 6’1 205 Morrilton
3 ⭐️ Chandler a Morris 6’0 180 Highland Park/Dallas
Running back:
3 ⭐️ Sevion Morrison 5’11 188 Tulsa
All Purpose Back:
3 ⭐️ Kelvontay Dixon 5’11 175 Carthage, TX
Wide Receiver:
3 ⭐️ Quin Bright 5’9 169 Cedar Hill, TX
4 ⭐️ Jordan Johnson 6’2 180 St. Louis
4 ⭐️ JJ Hester 6’3 175 Tulsa
4 ⭐️ Marvin Mims 6’1 165 Frisco, TX
3 ⭐️ Ze’Vian Capers 6’4 195 Cumming, GA
Tight End:
3 ⭐️ Allen Horace 6’4 218 Crockett, TX
Offensive Line:
4 ⭐️ Chris Morris 6’4 287 Memphis
4 ⭐️ Ray Curry 6’5 314 Memphis
4 ⭐️ Andrew Raym 6’5 300 Broken Arrow, OK
Defensive End:
4 ⭐️ Blayne Toll 6’5 230 Hazen
3 ⭐️ Jashaud Stewart 6’2 225 Jonesboro
4 ⭐️ Prince Dorbah 6’4 210 Highland Park Dallas
4 ⭐️ Kevon Billingsley 6’4 275 St. Louis
Defensive Tackle:
3 ⭐️ Eric Taylor 6’4 280 Trussville, AL
3 ⭐️ Bryant Burns 6’3 215 Ozark
3 ⭐️ Catrell Wallace 6’6 210 Bryant
4 ⭐️ Martavius French 6’2 235 Memphis
4 ⭐️ Bryson Eason 6’1 235 Memphis
Defensive Back:
4 ⭐️ Myles Slusher 5’11 190 Broken Arrow, OK
4 ⭐️ Joshuah Moten 5’11 160 Washington, MD
3 ⭐️ Joe Perkins 6’2 175 Madison, MS
That would give Arkansas a total of (13) 4 ⭐️ athletes and (13) 3 ⭐️ athletes in the 2020 class. There is potential to have a few of the 3 ⭐️ athletes move up to 4 ⭐️ status like Jacolby Criswell, Jashaud Stewart and Eric Taylor (who already has an offer from Alabama). Catrell Wallace of Bryant could also be a guy who could move up a star rating based on his potential.
I feel Arkansas will bring in two quarterbacks for the 2020 with one being the best athletic quarterbacks this state has produced in a long time in Criswell. Morris is a straight baller behind center. He has the ability to escape and still put the ball on the money. Morris also has the 4.5 speed many fans fawn over! The only thing that probably will keep his ceiling low in the SEC is his size. That is a shame though because he can play.
Morrison will also be a guy who signs with Arkansas out of Tulsa. Arkansas was the first to be on the underrated running back. The saying goes, “dance with the one who brought you.” When Arkansas’ Barry Lunney was the first to bring attention to the talented running back, Lunney took Morrison to the dance and he will return the favor and sign with the Hogs. The Razorbacks will also fend off a late pursuit by the Longhorns and Aggies to gain Dixon as a signee. This kid can absolutely fly for his size and will help Arkansas gain speed at running back.

Bright, Johnson, Hester, Mims and Capers will give Arkansas another terrific wide receivers class. With 2019 being the best overall class in the country, Arkansas will do it again. These guys will be all different sizes. Bright is a smaller athlete but can make moves in space but having the speed, elusiveness and agility to move around the field to create separation at every level. Johnson, Hester and Capers will be the big receivers that Morris and receivers coach Justin Stepp love to have on the field. Mims is a rangy receiver who could play on the outside but have a slot game as well.
The offensive line will continue to be upgraded by signing three 4 ⭐️ lineman in Morris and Curry of Memphis along with Raym of Broken Arrow. These guys are big time lineman and are all high on the Hogs early on in their recruitment.
Defensive line coaches Steve Caldwell and John Scott could bring in another group of solid defensive lineman to Fayetteville and would be a perfect compliment to what the 2019 class is. Toll could be a guy that could play end, tackle or linebacker in any package. At 2A Hazen he is a mismatch and that could carry over to the college game where could play multiple positions. He is a must get for Arkansas in the 2020 class. Stewart has been scouted by Caldwell already and loved what he saw enough to give Stewart an offer that day. Dorbah is promoting himself as a big time baller for Highland Park. He recorded 86 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 16 sacks. Billingsley and Taylor will be both huge additions to the class. Taylor is currently crystal ball’d 100% to Alabama but Arkansas has had very recent success recruiting in Trussville, AL. Arkansas is looking to get back into the St. Louis area for Billingsley who could be a difference maker out of Missouri. They will have to hold off Mizzou in order to gain the commitment if this tower of a man.
Arkansas has been trying to also keep the door open in Memphis where they are hoping to gain the commitment of two stud linebackers in French and Eason out of Whitehaven.

Canaan Sandy is Arkansas’ secret weapon as a recruiter. Here, Sandy is attending French and Eason’s high school game in early September.

Canaan Sandy has already showed up to one of their games during the early part of the 2018 high school regular season. Landing just one of these guys will help not only add depth but instant help at a position of dire need right now. Burns, who also plays wide receiver for his high school, could bring versatility to his linebacker position. To me, he would project more as an outside back than one on the inside. Wallace of Bryant would do the same. College coaches will fall in love with his measurables and recruit him on his potential alone. That makes him such a key prospect and difference maker for the Hogs in the 2020 class. That is what Houston Nutt did as head coach of the Razorbacks when he would be recruiting, he would sometimes offer a diamond in the rough and sign him before he would sign a higher rated out-of-state athlete. If Morris wants to be successful, you have to create your recruiting base in Arkansas and he knows it.
Finally, the defensive back class in 2019 has been very good. With Greg Brooks, Bush, Otey, Myles Brooks and Malik Chavis already committed for this class adding big time Oklahoma corner, Myles Slusher, will be big. He is a key cog on his current high school team who came clutch in the state finals as he intercepted a game clinching pass to win the championship. He is a good player and one that the Oklahoma Sooners wish they had signed. Arkansas will beat Penn State for Moten who fell in love with North West Arkansas. Perkins spurns Ole Miss late to stay with his commitment to the Hogs.
This is all a dream scenario because none of these players have even committed yet or anywhere. The list is all made up of players who Arkansas seems to be the most interested in and some that we are hopeful to get. I hope you enjoyed this but could change day to day. That is just how recruiting is.
